Use of Substitute Courses

The Associate Dean, Graduate Studies, College of Education (Room 125 Norman Hall, phone 273-4116) may authorize "equivalent" substitutes for the required courses.   Furthermore, as a substitute for EDF 7934 - Seminar in Educational Foundations:   Ethnography (in Ph.D. Track 3) the Associate Dean may authorize a course in anthropological methods other than ethnography, historical methods, philosophical methods, political science methods, or sociological methods.

To request a substitute(s) for a required course(s) submit to the College of Education Graduate Studies Office a completed "Substitute Request" form (available in the departmental offices and Graduate Studies Office). Please note that the completed request form must contain the approving signature of the supervisory committee chair.   Approval of the request by the Associate Dean authorizes the substitution(s).

For proposed substitute courses taken before admission to the Graduate School, University of Florida, the course(s) in question must have been completed within five years of the date of the request for substitution.

For proposed substitute courses to be taken after admission to the Graduate School, University of Florida, approval to substitute must be secured before enrolling in the course(s) in question.

Notification of the COE Graduate Studies Office of Completion of the Research Requirements

The Graduate Studies Office is responsible for assuring that each Ph.D. and Ed.D. student meets the COE minimum research requirements.   Therefore a form (available in the departmental offices and the Graduate Studies Office) showing the courses completed to meet the requirements should be filed with the student's Admission to Candidacy form.

Please note that the COE minimum research requirements must be completed prior to admission to candidacy.   Therefore, the Admission to Candidacy form will not be processed until the Graduate Studies Office has assurance that the requirements have been met.
