Join us for the first course dedicated specifically to Literacy & the Arts, Theory and Practice in the
Course Description This course will address how we educate literacy and arts (both broadly defined) in our classrooms to provide for multiple modes of learning. The course is designed to follow a seminar format with both online activities and onsite workshops. The online activities are designed to allow those with less experience with online learning to build their knowledge and skills in this area. The online portion will be continuous for approximately eight weeks beginning There will be three six-hour workshops at UF: First workshop, : to brainstorm topics, begin discussions and introduce procedures and get to know each other and the technology that will be used. Second workshop, at the Samuel P. Harn Museum: storytelling, through words and photographs. Final workshop,
will be dedicated to presentations of the participants' course projects and closing discussions.
Initial Topics: Multiple learning styles and Multiple Intelligences, Visual literacy, Media literacy, Graphicacy, and Reconciling social constructionism and standardization.
However, any certified teacher (or person with classroom experience) who is enrolled, or in the process of enrolling at UF in any program is welcome to participate. Minimal computer competence will be a pre-requisite. This includes locating and retrieving sources on the World Wide Web, communicating via e-mail including sending attached files, as well as basic word processing skills such as document creation and “cut and paste.” Access to the Internet, and a word processing program such as Microsoft WORD will be required. Links to other programs we will be using will be provided if needed.
