Single Certification Track
You must submit your Graduate Application to the Graduate School and the School of Teaching & Learning.
Students who select the Elementary Certification option complete their internship in the first semester of the graduate year (but not summer). Specialization coursework (12 hours) is taken during the summer before and the semester following the internship. You have several potential specializations within the elementary program. None of these options confers an additional area of certification (or endorsement), however, each provides you with valuable expertise which will enhance your skills and marketability as an elementary teacher. By following the links, you can see the coursework provided for each specialization.
Elementary Interdisciplinary: 3 hours each in advanced pedagogy in literacy, mathematics, science, and social studies. Technology is infused in all of the courses.
Elementary Specialist: 12 hours of advanced content pedagogy in ONE of the following:
ESOL Specialist: 12 hours of advanced study in ESOL
In addition to your specialization area, you will take the following coursework during your Master's Year.
Note: Your internship (EDE 6948) and EDE 6225 will be taken during your FIRST semester of your program. Your internship will be in an elementary or an inclusive classroom setting. It is recommended that ESOL specialists take their ESOL course prior to their internship.
