Master of Arts in Social Studies Education (MAE)

This Master of Arts in Social Studies Education allows experienced Social Studies educators to deepen their understanding in specific areas. Students are required to have a minimum of 36 hours for this degree.

Admission Criteria

  1. Earned bachelors degree in a social science field
  2. Experience in the social studies field
  3. Minimum score of 1000 on the verbal/quantitative portions of the General GRE. Applicants must have a minimum of 450 on the verbal section of the GRE.
  4. Upper division undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher
  5. Statement of purpose describing why you want this degree and how obtaining this degree can help you meet personal and career goals
  6. Three letters of recommendation from college/university faculty members. To use the letter of recommendation form, please click here.

Required Coursework

  1. Social Studies Education Courses (15 hours)
  2. Curriculum/Instruction Courses and Other Electives (15 hours)
  3. Masters Thesis or Project in Lieu of Thesis (6 hours)
