Course Sequencing : Masters Degree
This degree is designed to be as flexible as possible and the majority of course sequencing is determined by students using our online calendar of offerings (also linked from the left hand main menu). However, please take into account the following as you plan your program:
- There are five 8-week sessions per year: (1) Fall, (2) Spring 1, (3) Spring 2, (4) Summer 1 and (5) Summer 2.
- Students should take no more than 2 classes per session. Our recommendation is 1 class per session. You should be able to commit 16 hours per week to each course in which you enroll. We tell our face-to-face students in a 15 week course that they should spend a minimum of 9 hours a week in class and preparing for course. That is a total of 135 hours. If you divide that up for 8 weeks, you should be prepared to spend about 16 hours a week on each course.
- All our courses are rigorous, however, EDE 6458 (Classroom Research/Guided Inquiry) and EDG 6931 (Teacher Leadership and School Change) are particularly reading intensive. Be sure to take this into account when planning your program of study.
- EME 5403 (Instructional Computing I) should be taken as early as possible in your program as it is designed ensure students have basic knowledge of technology integration and basic technical competence. This class must be taken before EME 5404 (Instructional Computing II) and EME 6208 (Designing Integrated Environments).
- EME 6945 (Practicum in Educational Media) must be taken LAST as it is a culminating experience that requires you to synthesize materials from all your other courses.
If you want to tentatively create your Program of Study, please use this document as a guide. When you are officially accepted into the program you will receive this document accompanied by a Welcome letter from our faculty.
