EDE 6458: Guided Inquiry

Brief Description:In this experience you will learn the process of teacher inquiry by exploring the literature, studying the teacher research of other practicing teachers, and planning your own inquiry. Teacher inquiry, also known as teacher research, is a powerful tool for enhancing your own classroom practice and finding ways to respond to the pressures of high stakes testing. This course is specifically designed to help practicing teachers understand the purpose, goals, and process of inquiry as well as explore what inquiry offers your teaching.

Course Objectives:

  1. Teacher will recognize and identify the key components of powerful inquiry.
  2. Teachers will problematize learning by exploring who is learning, what is being learning, and how students are learning?
  3. Teachers will develop an inquiry stance that enables them to reflect what they are learning.
  4. Teachers will identify ways to collect and use multiple types of data as inquirers.
  5. Teachers will prepare for, organize and present a professional inquiry that summarizes their inquiry process and findings.
  6. Teachers will identify multiple tools for engaging in and leading powerful professional development that integrates the tools of inquiry.
