Linda S. Behar-Horenstein is a professor in the Department of Educational Administration and Policy. She joined the department in the Fall of 1992 after receiving the Ph.D. degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Loyola University of Chicago, an MA in Guidance and Counseling from Roosevelt University, and BA from Lawrence University. Before coming to the University of Florida, she was an instructor at National Louis University, a lecturer at Loyola University, and a teacher and administrator in regular and special education schools. Dr. Behar-Horenstein teaches graduate courses including the school curriculum, school evaluation, bases of curriculum and instruction theory, and curriculum theory and research that are aimed at developing students’ curriculum leadership skills. She also teaches research design in educational administration.

During the last five years her scholarly work has focused on: (a) describing how paradigmatic viewpoints influence training and practice, (b) helping professional school faculty think about the ways in which they teach while broadening their repertoire of approaches to teaching, (c) describing the nature of teaching practice, (d) discussing the current issues in curriculum, and (e) bridging the theory-practice connection. Some of her other scholarly activities include training dental and allied health professionals in the US and Canada, providing faculty development for K-12 practitioners, and designing studies to assist teachers, as well as school, nursing, and hospital administrators.

Here work appears in Curriculum & Teaching, Educational Horizons, Educational Theory and Practice, Elementary School Guidance & Counseling, the Journal of Dental Education, the Journal of Educational Administration, and The High School Journal and other journals Dr. Behar-Horenstein has published several book chapters and books. She has co-authored The Art and Practice of Dance/Movement Therapy, authored The Knowledge Base of Curriculum: An Empirical Analysis, co-edited Paradigm Debates in Curriculum and Supervision: Modern and Postmodern Perspectives and Contemporary Issues in Curriculum currently in its third edition.

She has served as the guest editor and co-editor for the Peabody Journal of Education. She is on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Professional Studies. Dr. Behar-Horenstein is a member of the Professors of Curriculum.
