Central Arizona College successfully defined student learning outcomes and is building a culture of evidence to support the Learning Paradigm.  Recent data indicate great strides in the improvement of student learning.  Qualitative research produced meaningful comparisons of leadership and faculty perceptions of the process of developing student learning outcomes.

Subsequent to Hurricane Katrina, Mississippi Gulf Coast businesses are rebuilding and rewriting rules.  This catastrophic event has afforded the coast a tremendous opportunity to write new rules furthering the redevelopment and expansion of international trade through the ports of Gulfport and Pascagoula and the expansion of the tourism industry.

To improve student success rates in developmental mathematics, the Montgomery College math faculty developed a Mathematics Learning Outcome Assessment Laboratory.  Using technology to help students continuously evaluate their own strengths, weaknesses, and areas needing further study has led to a dramatic improvement in passing rates for College Algebra.

Palm Beach Community College realigned its curriculum to allow students to seamlessly progress through career pathways. Students can start in clock-hour based instruction and transfer that learning into credit-based Associate in Science degrees. The challenge was given to transform aviation related programs to keep them from being eliminated. These programs were to be discontinued due to enrollment declines, costs, legislative mandates, lack of administrative support, and drastic State budget reductions. The New Rule was a paradigm shift of focus to the global market for program sustainability, rather than relying on dwindling academic funding sources.  By matching business archetype strategies in a global market, these programs were strengthened and have become models for others.

Mount Wachusett Community College’s Entrepreneurial Resource Center Business Plan Competition brings together stakeholders across all economic sectors to bolster the regional economy, and also highlights entrepreneurism as a viable career choice. Integrating Learning Communities into Study Abroad, piloted in Russia, was a joint effort including students, faculty and community leaders.  Participants researched business practices and studied the humanities of Russia in different cities.  Future learning communities will focus on business and humanities in Italy, Hungary, and Greece.
