Evaluative criteria for each contract will include, but not be limited to, the tasks above and expectations described below. Read these carefully, please. Specific guidelines for student products related to outcomes will also be discussed in class. Evaluation of prospective teacher work will be on a modified contract basis. For example, when a contract is not met at an acceptable level, in the judgment of the instructor, the next lowest option becomes operative.
Grades
"C" Contract: Basic Performance
A Learning Community (LC) is a group of prospective teachers who work together to facilitate the professional growth of its members. Among the requirements for satisfactory participation in the LC are:
Regular and punctual attendance
Participation in a balanced manner, providing evidence of careful preparation for class.
Arrives prior to class and remains until the conclusion of the class.
Missing more than two classes results in a serious discussion with the faculty in charge of the course. (Remember, one class session is the equivalent of a week). The quality of class sessions is, at least in part, a function of the participation of all LC members; therefore, when a LC member is absent, the quality of the learning experience is diminished for all students. Absence is, therefore, strongly discouraged, but make-up opportunities will be available, in the event of an unavoidable absence [which can happen]. Please consult with the instructor about a make-up opportunity. If prospective teachers take advantage of this attendance agreement (as viewed by the instructor or cohort members), the cohort will collectively readdress the issue.
Satisfactory contribution to the development of a learning community.
Satisfactory academic and personal support provided to other members of the community.
Satisfactory completion of Professional Tasks 1-7.
"B" Contract:
Satisfactory completion of the "C" contract Tasks 1-7.
Mixed or partial performance on tasks 7-12.
"A" Contract:
Proficient/Distinguished Performance of the "B" contract, plus:
Proficient/Distinguished Performance completion of Tasks 7, 8, 9, 10. 11, & 12
***Instructor's prerogatives: "C+" and "B+" grades are reserved for the instructor's use when a contract is completed, at a level of exceptionally high or noticeably low quality.
