PT3 Grant

The College of Education at the University of Florida was awarded a United State Department of Education Preparing Tomorrow's Teachers to Use Technology (PT3) grant in July 2001 to fund the University of Florida Teaching and Technology Initiative. This initiative combines organizations within the University of Florida, Alachua County Public Schools, Apple Computer, Inc., and Iowa State University's Center for Technology in Learning and Teaching to accelerate systemic change for technology integration in our teacher education program. The initiative is designed with four goals: 1) increased opportunities for diverse faculty development; 2) development of technology-based field experiences; 3) creation and implementation of a system of assessment, evaluation, and reflection based on electronic portfolios; and 4) modeling of technology in the daily learning environment by faculty members in the College of Education and the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences as well as extending this modeling into the student's field experiences. The partners are dedicated to increasing the role of technology in every aspect of each student's teacher education experience and have taken initial steps in this direction. The co-principal investigators are Drs. Colleen Swain and Kara Dawson. Additional information about the UF Teaching and Technology Initiative can be found at http://www.coe.ufl.edu/school/pt3/. Additional information about the PT3 federal program can be found at http://www.pt3.org
