- To all our Spring 2008 M.Ed./Ed.S. and Ph.D. graduating students - congratulations! We wish you the best!
- Congratulations Ms. Rachael Goodman, one of our doctoral candidates in Counselor Education, who has been selected to attend the June 4-6, 2008 Early Childhood Longitudinal Study, Kindergarten Class of 1998-99 (ECLS-K) Database Training Seminar. They received over 70 high quality applications for the 16 participant spaces available for the seminar. This training seminar is structured so that participants will have opportunities to work with the ECLS-K Electronic Code Book (ECB) software and data that will help Ms. Goodman further her dissertation research. Moreover, NCES pays for all of her expenses to participate in this research opportunity (travel, lodging, and meals). Her acceptance reflects well on our department and the quality of doctoral students in our program.

- Congratulations to Dr. Edil Torres Rivera who recently received a UF Faculty Learning Community grant along with his colleagues: William Conwill, Cirecie West-Olatunji, Faye Harrison, and Michael Garrett, in the amount of $26,103.00.
- Three cheers to Dr. Mary Ann Clark for being selected as the 2008 Graduate Teaching Award for the College of Education. Described by her specialist and doctoral students as genuine, candid and caring, Mary Ann has a gift for preparing future school counselors and counselor educators. As a lead investigator on international, national, and local research on male underachievement, she has involved her students in action research in local schools, encouraging them to present and publish their collaborative work. She makes sure her students acquire real-world knowledge of the profession and encourages them to take responsibility for contributing to interventions and solutions for issues in schools as they prepare to become professionals. In addition to her outstanding work as a teacher and mentor to graduate student, Mary Ann has authored or co-authored 34 publications, including three books, and has made numerous regional, national and international presentations on four continents.
- 2008 David and Brian Marshall Memorial Scholarship nomination packets due to Candy or Patty by April 14.
- Cheers to faculty and alumni writing team Drs. Sang Min Lee, Ana Puig, and Mary Ann Clark. They will receive the 2008 the Biggs-Pine Award for oustanding contribution to the literature for their publication The role of religiosity on postsecondary degree attainment. Journal of Counseling and Values, 5(1), 25-39. The article was praised as "A high quality empirical study that moves the literature forward."
- Please join us in celebrating our student award recipients - Summer Yacco recipient of the 2008 Multicultural Student Award, Michael Brubaker awarded the 2008 Dr. Daya and Mrs. Usha K Sandhu Multicultural Counseling/Diversity Student Research Award, Rachael Goodman awarded the Stripling Scholarship, Keely Hope awarded the Riker Scholarship, and Tina Tannen as a finalist for the Madelyn Lockhart Dissertation Fellowship Award, Awarded by the Association for Academic Women.
- Please join us in celebrating our faculty award recipients - Dr. Andrea Dixon for being honored with the Association for Multicultural Counseling and Development's Young Emerging Leader Award for 2008 and Dr. Cirecie West-Olatunji for being honored with the 'Ohana Award by Counselors for Social Justice for her demonstrated commitment to social justice and advocacy, particularly for socially marginalized and culturally diverse individuals.
