- The Foundation for Excellence in Education recently launched Secrets of Successful Teaching, an interactive guide to the traits, techniques and tools of Florida's greatest teachers. In partnership with the University of Florida's Lastinger Center for Learning, Secrets of Successful Teaching was created as part of the Foundation's Excellence in Teaching initiative to help educators, principals, parents, reformers and community and business leaders improve the quality of teaching in American classrooms. The guide includes 14 "secrets" and numerous quick tips divided into three core areas that are critical to success in the classroom, including A Relationship for Success, A Community of Learning and Techniques that Work. - In a strategy document on the use of federal funds, the Florida Department of Education recommended that school districts consider the UF Lastinger Center's Florida Master Teacher Initiative as a highly effective strategy to recruit, retain and develop master teachers that improve achievement in the most vulnerable schools. Several school districts in Florida - Collier, Duval, Miami-Dade and Pinellas - have been at the forefront of the Florida Master Teacher Initiative's movement to develop master teachers for the highest need schools in their communities. - The Lastinger Center has helped launch Ready Schools Miami. This initiative works to accelerate, focus and connect existing school improvement and early learning programs with parent, community, social sector, philanthropic, governmental and educational institutions to ensure early childhood success in school.
