What People Are Saying About America Reads

From Tutors

"Students love to bring us tutors their progress reports. It makes me feel like I'm really doing my job when they run up and show us their good reports--(especially when they are improving in reading)!"

"When most students hear the word tutoring, they feel like it is another form of teachers trying to help them in their problem areas. But after the first session, the students love tutoring and realize that I am not their teacher, but their friend and I am trying to help them. The formation of these friendships allows the students to feel comfortable and want to come to tutoring every time I am there."

"One student of mine hated coming to his session because he would rather be playing in his after school program, but today seemed different. We started off doing "Great Leaps". I encouraged him, and it seemed like he was more willing to do it. He did get antsy toward the end of the session, but he actually paid attention for the first time!"

From Teachers

Quote from Pam Tiefenbach at Idylwild Elementary

"Thanks to the America Reads Program our struggling readers are getting the individual assistance needed to be successful."

"I'm Teaching and coaching thanks to the America Reads program. Seriously, if I would have not gone through those trainings and having [the staff] help me out, I would have never been in the position that I am today."

"Seeing the enthusiasm in the children's eyes after they make a Great Leap is fulfilling."
