UF Student reading Council donates record number of books to America Reads
University of Florida College of Education Student Reading Council donates nearly 1200 books gathered through their annual book drive.
"All America Reads is taking the Nation by Storm"
All America Reads (AAR), a nationwide comprehensive reading project
designed to encourage reading and discussion, is quickly spreading
across the country. AAR selects a single title by which readers can
join in a shared reading experience and explore the book's characters
and themes. And the project organizers have selected "Wish You Well" by
David Baldacci for 2001/2002 (Warner Books).
All America Reads is a collaborative project designed in two main
parts: one, to encourage middle and high school students to read
while providing them with necessary strategies for comprehending
the text and; two, provide reading guides and information for all
readers including exciting and innovative programs for book groups.
The project website (www.allamericareads.org ,
currently online and launching with expanded features) has been designed
to include information about the author and the selected text, extensive
educational lesson plans for students and educators, reading guides
and resources for book groups, inter-active chat rooms, teacher resources,
author on-line interviews and discussions, guest articles and discussions,
and information for community literacy groups.
