Educator Information
You can be a part of the America Reads Challenge!
To date, approximately 1000 children have received
tutorial services from over 200 America Reads tutors and volunteers. America
Reads currently offers tutoring to children in grades kindergarten
through high school.
Any public or private school, community center, or
after school program can participate in America Reads. Tutoring
sites include area schools, after-school recreation centers, and
Shands Teaching Hospital. University students eligible to receive
work study as a form of financial aid are recruited to work as
reading tutors for children birth through high school. Tutors earn
$8.00-$10.00 per hour, or course credit, depending on level of
experience. Tutors receive training provided by UF College of
Education instructors prior to placement at tutoring sites. Tutors
must be provided a schedule that allows individuals to work at lest
two days per week for 2-3 hours each day in order for the tutors
to earn their financial aid award or course credit. Tutors
must be able to begin work at an eligible site within the first
two weeks of any UF semester. Schools or sites interested in placement
of tutors should contact the America Reads office at least one
month prior to the start of any UF semester.
