How to Become an America Reads Tutor
Paid Positions are available for any student enrolled at the University
of Florida who is eligible to receive work study as a form of financial
aid. No experience is required. Hourly wages are $8.00-$10.00 depending
on level of experience.
New and old tutors must complete a paid training course prior
to placement at tutoring sites. Tutors must be able to provide their own transportation.
A schedule that allows individuals to work at least two
days per week for 2-3 hours each day between the hours of 8:00
am and 6:00 pm is required. We also request that individuals commit
to at least one semester of work.
Tutors may also earn 2-3 hours
of course credit by registering for RED 2000 America Reads Tutoring
Independent Work. Contact Dr. Choice for more information on this
class.
Individuals interested in applying to become a tutor :
- Must maintain at least a 2.0 GPA
- Must receive Financial Aid/Federal Work Study
- Must maintain course credits required to continue to receive
work study
In order to receive Financial Aid/Federal Work Study you must complete
the application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). You can fill out
the FAFSA form for the 2006-2007 school year anytime after January
1, 2006 and before June 1, 2006. However, please observe that most
schools process Financial Aid requests in the early spring, and in
order to ensure that you receive funds you should fill out the FAFSA
as early as possible. The FAFSA is available at the
financial aid office or on the web at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov.
