Culture & Technology

View Menu

The View menu (figure below) contains the Window menu which serves as an alternative method for moving among windows. You can use the Window menu to go (or return) to the Search Engine window, the Abstract & Links Info window, the Print List window, the Help window, the Resource window, or the Link window. The Abstract & Links Info window, the Resource Wwindow, and the Link window can be accessed from this menu as long as another window (besides the Search Engine window) is open. The View menu also contains commands for going to the Next Page or the Previous Page in a resource when either the Resource or Link window is open.

The View menu provides access to the Resource History dialog box:

which lists all resources opened during a session (between opening and quitting Culture & Technology ). You can open any of the resources in the list from this dialog box by clicking on the title and then clicking the Open button. The View menu also contains the command, Current Book TOC, for viewing a table of contents when you have the Abstract & Links Info window open:

This menu item works the same as the Book Contents button in the Abstract & Links Info window. You can open any of the listed resources by clicking to highlight the resource title, then clicking the Open button.

The Related Resources menu item can be used when the Link Window is open. It produces a dialog box that lists other resources that also are linked to the resource currently visible in the Link Window. You can open any of the related resources, or the resource that contains the link, by clicking on the title and then clicking the Open button (see figure below).

You can produce the same list using the Shared Resources button () in the Link Window:

The View menu also contains the General Caution Note command which opens a window of text that discusses aspects of science and social studies requiring user discretion. The note mainly deals with issues related to changes in attitudes and knowledge since publication of the original projects. In addition, a few specific resources that require some special consideration have been flagged with a caution button which appears at the top of the Abstract & Links Info window. Clicking on the button produces a window of text explaining the particular concerns associated with that resource. Other similar issues, such as dated materials in lessons or associated resources that may not be available with Culture & Technology, have been dealt with in note form in the resource synopsis.
