The About menu (figure above), offers background information on CULTURE & TECHNOLOGY. The menu provides access to credit information in the About Culture & Technology window, detailed information on original projects in Background Information, and a Help window for on-screen assistance.
The Background Information provides an overview of CULTURE & TECHNOLOGY (in the main menu) along with more detailed background information on the individual projects included in CULTURE & TECHNOLOGY. The individual projects are listed with attached overviews, tables of contents for the original project materials, and credits. The tables of contents list book titles and other resource titles along with a breakdown of chapter titles and page numbers. In addition, the CULTURE & TECHNOLOGY staff developed separate abstract titles for resources which have been listed with the original titles in these lists. These titles are the same ones seen in the Abstract & Links Info window under "other resource information." The original titles are given, preceded by the staff-developed lesson title. The lesson titles are those that appear in the Resources List in the Search Engine window.
Overviews of the original projects include the philosophies and objectives of the projects, the histories of their development, and how the projects were organized. The Background Information feature also contains credits for the projects that consist of acknowledgements of the original contributors and copyright information.
The Help window provides a quick and easy on-screen source of information for using CULTURE & TECHNOLOGY. (This reference section provides more detailed assistance, along with short cuts, for using CULTURE & TECHNOLOGY.) To use the Help window, click on a word or phrase in the box on the left-hand side of the screen for information about that term. A brief description of the term (if applicable) and help information appear in the right-hand box.
