The Conflict Resolution/Peer Mediation Research Project was a four year
project supported by the U. S. Department of Education/Office of Special
Education Programs.
- The project presents
empirical evidence of the effectiveness of CR/PM use in schools to
prevent children with emotional and behavioral problems from developing
SED.
- The results of our study
enable educators to understand better the specific characteristics
and components that make CR/PM effective and efficient.
- Teachers of students
with emotional and behavioral problems will be able to design CR/PM
programs that produce desired outcomes with a reasonable range of
procedural variation and efficiency.
- Teachers and other professionals
will be able to determine the extent to which behaviors acquired through
CR/PM will contribute to success in other environments, such as home
and community based programs.
- The project provides
evidence concerning the perceptions of those who use CR/PM (e.g.,
students, teachers, families, other school personnel, community representatives)
and the extent of their satisfaction with the procedures and outcomes,
specified goals and objectives, and activities. Knowledge of the social
validity of CR/PM enables educators to choose appropriate prevention
and management programs.
